ABOUT US

Supporting communities to keep children in school and out of poverty

Our Mission

Zimbabwe Educational Trust is a diaspora-led UK registered charity. Our collaborative model helps our partners to access the funds they need, build capacity from within, track outcomes and deliver impactful projects in vulnerable communities.

We believe in providing education directly and removing the barriers to education wherever they may be.

Our Values

Through all our work, in the UK and in Zimbabwe, we are guided by the following values

Respect.

We treat all people with dignity and respect.

Integrity.

We are honest, transparent, and ethical in all aspects of our work.

Accountability.

We answer to the communities we work in, and we honour the commitments we make to our supporters.

Impartiality.

We are a non-partisan organisation.

Humility.

We are led by our partners and communities to find appropriate solutions.

Our Principles

In alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 4 of ‘QUALITY EDUCAITON’ and Zimbabwe’s Education Sector Strategic Plan, our work is underpinned by three principles

Inclusion

Reducing exclusion from education and addressing the diverse needs of individuals by increasing participation in learning and communities.

Equity

Supporting groups who are in a position of disadvantage so that education is not restricted by gender, ethnicity, family environment, or other personal or socioeconomic conditions.

Quality

Meeting locally defined educational objectives around the school environment, educational attainment, learning achievement, and non-cognitive skills.

Education with Communities

The socio-economic and socio-cultural conditions in modern Zimbabwe create vulnerabilities which keep many children from accessing education and reaching their full potential. With your support, we are making a difference!

Changing The Cycle of Poverty & Education

Poverty inhibits both a child’s access to education and their attainment when in education. This vicious cycle keeps many children in poverty and out of school. ZET recognises that the barriers which prevent Zimbabwean children from accessing a full and high-quality education are found both inside and outside of the classroom.

A ‘dual focus’ runs through all of our work. We aim to help improve material conditions within the Zimbabwean education system and to improve socio-economic conditions for children and young people in their lives outside of education. In doing so we can transform the ‘vicious cycle’ into a ‘virtuous cycle’ – one which helps keep children in school and out of poverty.

Genuine Community Ownership

Sustainable development cannot occur unless individual communities take ownership of the process. We believe that this ‘ownership’ is not something which can be inspired from outside or imposed from above and so addressing issues must involve the communities themselves.

All of ZET’s work is done in partnership with existing grassroots organisations. They have full ownership of the work they carry out. They understand the challenges facing local communities (their communities) more fully than we ever could from our base in the UK.

Our Supporters

“ZET have shown themselves to be a reliable partner, delivering in line with their application and, in some places, exceeding outcomes.  They are clear and open communicators, deliver well presented and interesting reports and represent good value for money. As a result, we would have no hesitation in recommending ZET to another potential sponsor.”

Janice Page – Mercury Phoenix Trust

“As a repeat grant recipient, we have always found Zimbabwe Educational Trust  to consistently deliver high-quality projects that are thoughtfully designed, well-managed, and clearly rooted in local needs. Their work has a tangible, lasting impact, and they approach every project with professionalism, clarity, and a deep commitment to the communities they serve.”

Sally Cornish – Evan Cornish Foundation

Three times ‘A’ rated by Foreign & Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO), formerly Department for International Development (DFID) on projects related to birth registration and young women’s empowerment.

Our last grant feedback praised our impact, value for money, and our ability to reach the most vulnerable in society.

Our Pfumvudza demonstration methods have been nationally recognised. Foundations for Farming were commissioned by the Zimbabwean government to train over 2,000 community Extension Officers in climate smart agriculture, supporting millions of small holder families nationwide.
